Explore Twinsburg

Twinsburg, Ohio, is a little over 13 square miles. It is a suburb of the city between Cleveland and Akron, Ohio. It has had four majors over the course of the years from 1979-2015. These were Ted Yates, Katherine Procop, James Karabec, and Anthony Price.  Ted Yates is still in office as mayor today.

It’s no surprise that Twinsburg, OH formerly known as Millville, is a pretty awesome place. It is about 30 minutes from downtown Columbus and is home to Ohio State University and the Hohman Center for Advanced Manufacturing. It has an old urban feel with a cool vibe that is definitely not found in many suburbs. I was also surprised to learn that it has more restaurants per square mile than any other suburb in Ohio!

The town was sold off by the Connecticut Land Company, which was about 400 acres, to the family of Ethan Alling, who was 16 at the time.  Ethan went to survey the land and is considered the first inhabitant.  Later, he became the town’s postmaster and was a merchant, hotel proprietor, and stagecoach operator.

Twinsburg Ohio History

While living in what is known as Twinsburg, he had several successful enterprises.  One of his more well-known projects was the founding of the Mansfield Magnetic Railroad.  The company was renamed the “Ohio Magnetic Railroad Co.” in 1860 when it was incorporated.  In 1865, after falling out with his partners, Alling abandoned his fortune and moved to San Francisco.

In the 1860s, the town was in the throes of a railroad boom.  Due to its strategic location in Ohio’s Iron and Coal country, it was a perfect location for a railway hub.  The Morley brothers of Colorado were so enamored by the area that they made plans to extend their line from Denver, Colorado, and run it through Twinsburg.

Twinsburg Schools

Now, it is a vibrant suburb that has five schools which are:

  • Twinsburg High School
  • R.B. Chamberlin Middle School
  • Dodge Intermediate School

  • Wilcox Primary

.Twinsburg is located in Summit County and has a population of about 19K. There is loads of information about the Twin Festival that can be found all over the internet.
